Hill on the Wall is what it says - almost exactly on the famous Roman Wall built nearly 2000 years ago - about 300 yards walk actually.
A bit of history about the house...
An Act of Parliament in 1555 made it compulsory for everyone living in the twenty mile wide Border Zone to build their own defences against reivers and cross-border raiders. Not everyone complied but the owners of 'The Hill' did.
In 1595 this 'bastle' was built and while it has all the comforts of the 21st century, its original characteristics have been tastefully retained.
Step outside our front door onto the terrace and gardens and immediately you are amongst some of the most breathtaking natural surroundings in the country.
Located on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland, we are ideally situated for visiting Hadrian's Wall (especially Birdoswald Roman Fort), historic Carlisle and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Relax with us...
When you have had enough of the hustle and bustle of the busier tourist spots, mark the end of a perfect day by unwinding back at Hill on the Wall B&B with tea and home made cake in the garden and watch the sunset over the North Pennines and the Lakeland fells beyond.
Luxurious B&B accommodation on Hadrian's Wall..
